Excellent interview. Spot on description of Vajpayee as a weak willed person.

He was the duffer who elated by the Chinese entertainment during his visit there, gave it in formal writing that Indian government recognizes Tibet as part of China.

  2. Faulaadi Singh says:

One of the biggest blunder of the Indian political establishment post 1947 has been not to disband the caste based Indian army regiments.

They should have been renamed as Maharana Pratap Brigade, Bhagat Singh Brigade, Subhas Chandra Bose regiment with no utter nonsense of the laughable phrase of “martial race” coined by the British to fool Indians.

It’s high time that the names of all morons who died fighting colonial wars for the English be removed from India Gate and other public memorials.

  3. Chattur Chamaar says:

You mentioned about Jaishankar’s son being based in USA. What about one of the sons of Doval, the Indian NSA.

The aforementioned individual holds a British Passport and runs a hedge fund business in the Cayman Islands 🇰🇾

I never imagined to see the day when the Indian government will finally be able to confront an anglo saxon country. Well done 👍

    Professor,

I can see a quantitative and qualitative improvement in Indian military capabilities in the last four years. I remember pre Covid, most of the discussions in your blog centered around corruption, ineptitude, lack of strategic thinking, poor information warfare, etc.

Now, it feels quite different. I really think that India is significantly improving indigenous military capabilities – good quality aircraft, artillery guns, aircraft carriers, submarines, helicopters, missiles, rockets etc. Also, higher indigenous content – the recent $5.4B order for Tejas Mk1A (planned), actually works out to be equivalent of importing 5.4×0.6×3.7+0.4×5.4 = $14.1B worth of aircraft, assuming a 3.7x PPP and 60% indigenous content.

This is huge! If the capital expenditure of the Indian military is $20B with 60% indigenous content by value, then this amount is equivalent to >$52B annually in PPP. With military expenditures rising and the no import lists also expanding, I can see how in the next five years, real Indian military expenditures will far exceed numbers on paper. The Indian military will pack a solid punch by the end of this decade. The Indian military is improving by in plain sight, and the world is not noticing it.

Also, India’s foreign policy is the most realist of the major powers. Even the past master of realpolitik, the U.S., comes across as embarrassingly liberal (and stupid) compared to the current Indian policy. It’s time that India drive the U.S. out of Pakistan as it gains power and take over the reins in South Asia. And stop allowing the U.S. using Pakistan as a proxy state (just like it should stop China from using Pakistan as a proxy). My guess is that day is coming and India has already set in motion the covert warfare required for it.

  6. Jaam-Baaz Jaat says:

Mr. Karnad I remember hearing from a few prominent sources that it was actually Mossad which was behind late Rajeev Gandhi’s assassination because Rajeev was proving to be a big stumbling block in Israeli lucrative arms supplying cartel in Sri-Lanka.

It was also rumored that Subramanian Swamy was Mossad’s point man in Delhi.

Could you please shed some light on the aforesaid.

  7. Gurudatt says:

Good Straight Talk by you, Bharatji. Love taking your name as it is same as our country but you are the true son of soil

  8. Amit says:

    Professor,

Looks like Trudeau is getting set up to get a shellacking, as Obama would put it! India should drag Trudeau through the mud and send a message to the U.S. in conjunction, that liberal nuttiness won’t be spared, but appropriately punished. The entire western media anti India campaign must be countered too. It’s happening already – so would be curious to see how India drags Trudeau through the mud!

  9. Amit says:

Professor, here’s an article which shows how the Indo Canada spat can rupture Indo US relations.

    https://apnews.com/article/us-canada-sikh-killing-india-china-pacific-ebec0fcec449f0335b3b0db6e3d30650

More and more articles in the west indicate that Canada is being truthful with the allegations. This article shows how it can rupture Indo US relations.

The point that is lost on the author is that whether relations rupture of not, it diminishes US power. Without India supporting the U.S. in the Indo Pacific, the U.S. is weak. And if the U.S. does nothing, its position in the Five Eyes is weaker (marginally). It would be better if the U.S. does not break relations with India on this matter, but in either case the U.S. loses. Canada has made a poor decision on this matter.

  10. Gopichand Jasoos says:

    https://www.bbc.com/news/live/world-middle-east-67037895

Hamas couldn’t have pulled this attack without major help from outside.

The trillion dollar question is; who’s behind the curtain player in supporting Hamas for the aforementioned; Russia, CIA or is it a false flag operation by elements within the Israeli establishment 🧐

    • Yedaa Yadav says:

@Gopichand- Putin has supplied Hamas with his Wagner mercenaries to open up a fierce fighting front in the Middle East.

West wanted a circus, Putin has provided them with one.

      • Chaaluu Chamaaran says:

@YY- On the contrary my sources say it’s a covert operation launched by CIA since Uncle Sam wasn’t happy with Israel’s improving relations with the Arab states of Middle East.

  11. International Lunghaad says:

@ Chaaluu Chamaaran- Spot on. Uncle Sam ko kissii kaa uncle maatt samjho. Uncle Sam is that character who is over friendly with everyone in the neighborhood but in reality is a child molester paedophile.
